Where did Belarusian electronic music come from?

Radio Plato is launching a new podcast called "Icarus: Stories of Belarusian Electronic Music." This is a passion project by Aliaksandr Karneichuk, co-founder of the radio station and also known as KorneJ. Drawing on his years of experience as a sound designer, Kornej has woven a rich, multifaceted history of Minsk's electronic music scene in the 1990s. The podcast features interviews with key players from that era, their music, audiovisual documents of the time, and AI reconstructions.

– Whenever I read books or watched documentaries about the emergence of electronic scenes in Chicago, London, Berlin, or Leningrad, I always wondered: 'What was happening here in Belarus?'" Karneichuk explains. "Which Belarusian bands were the first to start playing electronic music? Where and how did people party at the first Belarusian raves? And how did electronic music seep into people's consciousness and foster cultural connections within Belarus and beyond?" The first season of "Icarus: Stories of Belarusian Electronic Music" will explore these questions.

The podcast consists of six episodes, which will be available on Soundcloud, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Text versions of the episodes will also be accessible on 34mag.net.
